Function
To fulfil the function for which a building is intended is not the only criterion,
rather, it is a starting point. The majority of our design decisions are practical
and logical, offering many benefits to our clients, although there remains
an element of imagination and spontaneity. It is our imagination and intuition
that enables us to assemble all the phenomena, to see them as a whole in relation
to the norms of the past, the needs of the present and the aspirations of
the future. We believe FUNCTIONALISM affords the best solution and provides
the building occupants with the best opportunities and environment.
Form
The form of a building is determined by many variables which are often unique
to each project. We use a set of universal principles which, combined with
the specific determinants of each building, result in a unique aesthetic.
These principles are : Experience, Context, Association and Abstraction.
Expression
Expression can be dealt with in many different ways, however, primarily they
are in respect to appearance:
Surface Treatment, Expression of Structure, Shape or Form, Enclosed or Open
Space. These expressions can be literal, associative or interpretive, depending
on the effect we are aiming to create.
Influence
Influences are a major determinant in the direction of our architecture. Both
historical and contemporary architecture provide successful examples and it
is these influences which enable us to develop design principles and to generate
our individual style and expression.
